Early Intervention with Infants at Risk for Developmental Delays : Early Intervention is an early stimulation and enrichment program for infants and young children with varying types and degrees of disability. It is primarily used for children with developmental disabilities offering services, which will enhance the development of young children.

Early Intervention services such as ours, in developing countries, where health services are lacking in urban slums and deprived rural populations and where poverty is widespread, form the basis of ensuring proper care and management of At-risk Infants. Early intervention such as ours not only reduces the impact of handicapping conditions when identified early, but also strengthens the bond between mother and her child.

Programs/Projects

Home based: Initially, our Early Intervention Program was home-based, mainly for the benefit of families in the old city of Hyderabad as they lived far away from any proper Health facilities. The key persons in our home-based program are the Home Visitors. They are not professionals. They are SSC passed and receive intensive training in Early Intervention over a period of 10 weeks, under proper supervision and guidance.

Centre based: This program is run in 3 Adoption Centres and Niloufer Hospital for Women & Children, Hyderabad which is a Government-run Hospital where all services are provided free of cost to patients. Princess Durreshwar Hospital, Muslim Maternity Hospital, Golconda Hospital, E.S.I. Hospital and the Imampura Health Centre are the other hospitals where this program has been introduced since 2000. The services of para-medical units – like physiotherapy and speech therapy are also available and provided as part of the program. In addition, the Hospitals have other Units like the Departments of Neurology, Cardiology, ENT, Ophthalmology etc., where Centre-based Children can be referred for tests and consultation.
